Family of shot man cries for justice
The family of 28 year old Yaw Stephen, who was shot and killed by a task force of the Forestry Commission on the Kumasi-Sunyani Road last week for allegedly engaging in timber log smuggling, are demanding justice from authorities.
Speaking with TOPNEWS1, Yaw Attah,
who is the senior brother of the deceased speaking on behalf of the family
appealed to the police to get to the bottom of the issue to bring the perpetrators
to book because his brother did nothing wrong.
Family friend and eye witness to the incident, Patrick Opoku,
who was in company with the deceased said the intention of the task force was to
shot and kill, since they targeted specifically at the deceased and the driver
and shot at them.
"If their intention was to stop us even if they thought we
were speeding away, they would have shot at the tires of the car or the body,
but there are no marks on the car and all its tires are intact, apart from the
windscreen at the back which got broken as a result of the bullet that was shot
through it" he narrated.
The driver of the Opel Astra car they were traveling with
who also sustained gun wounds at his back is currently receiving treatment at
the hospital.
Yaw Stephen was shot dead by some
personnel of the Ghana forestry commission at the Ntensrere barrier
at Besease junction off the Sunyani road last Sunday.
The deceased was among four people in an Opel taxi cab returning
from Mankranso escorting a cargo car loaded with timber logs around 10pm.
Patrick Osei who was among the passengers narrating the
incident to TOPNEWS1 said, a Police patrol team and some personnel of the
Forestry commission, stopped their car with the load and had an interaction with the owner of the timber logs.
He added, after the conversation, he came to board the vehicle and after driving off, the personnel from the Forestry commission and the Police Patrol team began to chase them with their Nissan Pick Up and started firing gun shots at their cab killing Yaw Stephen and injured another.
