Ksi: Wayside traders rush to Race Course for space, prior to eviction deadline

Prior to the deadline given to traders who are plying on the streets and other unauthorized places in the Kumasi Metropolis to vacate such areas, some of the traders have trooped in to Race Course to search for space, with just two days to the date.
The Kumasi traditional council, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah in collaboration with the KMA have ordered these wayside traders to relocate themselves to Race Course, Afia Kobi market at Abinkyi, Adumanu market and other remote areas before Monday, 6th this Month.
The decongestion exercise according to the city authorities is to ensure the impeccable clean of the Kumasi city, as the Final funeral rites of late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II draw nigh.
The traders however have been beseeching the authorities to extend the deadline to next year January, but the authorities have refused to heed to their plea.
Meanwhile, some of the traders on Friday, 3rd November, stormed Race Course to mark some portions with gravels and other materials for themselves.
In an interview with Agyenkwa News, Eric Boakye, some of them said they know they will surely be evicted and that they are taken the lead to find a space, in order not to get stranded when the day comes.
"We are here to acquire a space for ourselves because they have intended to go on with their action, and we don't want to wait till the deadline because we know this place will be jammed with people struggling for space on Monday".
Meanwhile, Eric Boakye reports that there were some ongoing maintenance works at the market to make it conducive for the traders settlement.
"There is an excavator leveling some portion of the grounds with gravels. There are some powered streets available there. There is also a place for convenience, a toilet facility, urinal and a bathing place, these facilities would only be used at a cost". Eric Boakye narrated.
