KMA decongestion exercise: KMA gets tough on stubborn traders at PZ

The Kumasi Matropolitan Assembly, (KMA) has as part of efforts to make their decongestion exercise a successful one, deployed a joint KMA, police and Military task force to stormed PZ, at Adum, the central business district to destroy properties belonging to traders who have stubbornly refused to vacate the place.

Properties include, tables, chairs, umbrellas and wares belonging to the traders were smashed on the ground by the security personnel who aggressively pounced on these petty traders unexpectedly.

These traders who are plying on pavements and other unauthorized areas have been directed by the City authorities to vacate such areas to ensure the immeacable clean of the city, as the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II draws nigh.

The traders were directed to relocate to Race Course, Abinchi market, Adumanu and other remote areas by Monday, 6th November.

But some of the tradres who were still plying at their current places, in an interview said they went to the Race Course to search for spaces but did not find anywhere to settle there.

"We have since last Monday been going to Race Course to find spaces to settle but to no avail because the KMA said they are now demarcating the ground. We are now stranded and don't know what to do".

They said they do not understand why the KMA has urged them to relocate to Race Course whiles the place is not ready for them.

Others said no amount of threat from the security personnel will scare them to leave the place. They said they will still ply there.

Meanwhile, dozens of traders have since Monday, 6th November, been trooping in to Race Course to find spaces but have been struggling to settle there, as the KMA are now preparing the place for them.

The Kumasi Mayor, Hon. Osei Asibey Antwi has asked the traders to get their names registered to their leaders to ensure a smooth sharing of the place after the demarcation.
