My comment was unfortunate- Ayisi Boateng retracts "care for NPP members first" comment, apologises to Ghanaians



Ghana's high commissioner to South Africa, His Excellency George Ayisi Boateng has in a statement retracted his "NPP members welfare is my priority" comment, describing it as unfortunate.

The ambassador in the statement also rendered an unqualified apology to Ghanaians and the presidency over his utterance.

The later said when addressing some members Addressing some TESCON members at a ceremony to usher in fresh students of Kumasi Technical University into the network said his topmost priority is to seek the welfare of members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) since in his view, they are “more Ghanaian than other Ghanaians”.

However, his comment has attracted widespread of criticisms from the Minority in parliament as well as civil society groups and the clergy with many calling on the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sack him from office.

Mr Ayisi-Boateng had earlier defended his statement but he ate back his words on Wednesday, 1 November describing his own comments as unfortunate.

But he has in a new statement retracted his comment.
