Ash Reg: School authorities threaten to close down school over shit bombing
The authorities at Tikrom M/A JHS in the Ejisu Juaben Municipal of Ashanti Region have indicated their resolve to close down the school, following the rampant defecation in the school.
Some unscrupulous residents in the Tikrom community have turned the classrooms of the school into a place of convenience, affecting the school's academic activities.
The school desks, teachers tables and chairs as well as blackboards are mostly smeared with human excreta.
Mr. Agyeman Yeboah, the head teacher of the school in an interview said the situation is dreadfully embarrassing and has affected their academic activities, as the teachers refuse to teach because of the stench that emanates from the school compound.
He noted that the perpetrators do have free access into the classrooms, as there are no windows nor doors to close the classrooms after classes hours.
"Our classrooms are uncompleted, there are no windows and doors and the people have taken advantage of that situation to defecate here whenever we left for our homes, we always come to the school in the morning to find human excreta smeared around the classrooms and on our chalk boards. It is an eye sore and disheartening to see students in their uniforms scrubbing the classrooms before they begin classes."
He said the teachers have therefore abandoned the classrooms and have been compelled to organize classes under trees, as they find it difficult to bear with the situation.
Meanwhile, the Assembly member at the area, Hon Stella Oduro Boateng, expressed disappointment in the people at the area and said she has reported the situation to the Assembly.
She appealed to the government and other individuals to come to their aid by providing them with newly furnished school blocks to replace the old one which has become a death trap and risks collapse.
"This is naturally unlawful, we are going to have a meeting with the committee members on this issue and if it continues after the meeting then we do not have any option than to close down the school and take the teachers away because this thing has been going on for more than a year now."
Meanwhile, according to reports, the students in an attempt to petition the Chief over the situation were sacked by the Krontihene of the community and threatened to get them arrested.
According to some of the students, the Krontihene told them that it was wrong for them to protest against the situation, since the Assembly has not provided any toilet facility for the people.
