KMA decongestion: traders stranded at Race Course due to unavailability of space
Some traders in the Kumasi metropolis who stormed Race Course to search for space were left stranded, as the place was not ready for them.
Today marks the deadline given by the KMA and the Asanteman traditional Council to traders plying on the streets and other unauthorized areas to vacate and relocate themselves to Race Course, Abinkyi market, and other remote places.
But the traders numbering over thousands, besieged the race course this morning (6th November, 2017) to find themselves spaces to continue with their businesses, only to discover the place was not furnished for their settlement.
The Kumasi Mayor, hon Osei Asibey Antwi addressing the media, urged the traders to stay calm and exercise patience, as they prepare the place for them.
He said they are now demarcating the ground to distribute the spaces to the traders through their Association leaders.
He urged the traders to halt their businesses until they hear from them.
However, some of the traders in an interview expressed disappointed in the Kumasi City authorities for failing to prepare the place before embarking on the decongestion exercise.
They threatened to go back to the streets if the place is not made ready for them in this short possible time.
