SMALL SCALE MINERS DIVIDE OVER POLITICAL PARTY FORMATION

There is currently what could be described as division among members of the Ghana National Association  of Small Scale Miners over a decision to establish a political party by some of the members. The Executives of the Association have snubbed the decision, saying they are not in support of that. A section of the Ghana National Association of small scale miners  (GNASSM)  have declared their resolve to form a political party in the name of the Association to fight for their interest, as they claim the two major Political parties, NPP and NDC have failed to fight on their behalf. Their decision follows refusal by government to lift the ban imposed on their activities, despite several agitations and confrontations with the government. Sensational Media personnel, Kwabena Asare popularly known in the radio biz as Otwinoko has revealed that he was jinxed by some close friends and colleagues he was working with in the Media fraternity, leading to his illness. Widows intercessor wants a free legal office to fight for widows rights

The president for Ekunafo Mmoa foundation , Mrs. Philomina Antwiwaa has called on the government to set up a legal office of qualified lawyers that will bestow justice for widows who suffer maltreatment from their late husband's relatives. According to her, it is a worry most widows become stranded and helpless, as their late husband's relatives deny them access to their late husband's properties, hence, the need to provide them with free legal experts who will fight for their rights. The widows advocate made this request during the 2017 annual prayer conference of the Ekunafo Mmoa foundation in Kumasi. It was held under the theme: The power of a praying widow/ caring for the widow. Komenda health facility in a deplorable state, management calls for renovation

The lone health facility at Komenda - Edina- Abirem Eguafo Municipality in the Central Region is in a deplorable state, posing security threat on the health personnel and patients. The health director at the hospital, Dr. John Ekow Otoo in an interview said the facility has seen no renovation since it was constructed in 1974, as it has developed cracks and leakages on the roof, threatening the lives of the people who patronize the facility. He disclosed to Jerry Asare, a reporter with Atinka FM that the pillars and the ceiling of the facility is wearing out, posing as a death trap to its users. "The facility is like a death trap because every wall here has developed cracks and water leaks through the ceiling which has developed some leakages". KSI: Residents rendered homeless, as properties destroyed due to flood

A deluge has rendered scores of residents homeless at Ohwim and Amanfrom, in the Bantama constituency in the Ashanti Region, following a heavy downpour yesterday, 22nd November, 2017. Properties worth millions of Ghana Cedis were subsequently devastated as a result of the deluge. Some of the affected residents in an interview with the Media said they have been left stranded, as they do not have any other place to lodge. One of them, Opanin Kofi Boateng blamed the situation on a clogged drain in the area which he said got overflowed with water and invaded their homes. "There is a gutter right here which has been blocked with refuse and other materials. The gutter was formally not here but as people began to settle here, it also found it's way here". He noted. Ash Reg: School authorities threaten to close down school over shit bombing

The authorities at Tikrom M/A JHS in the Ejisu Juaben Municipal of Ashanti Region have indicated their resolve to close down the school, following the rampant defecation in the school. Some unscrupulous residents in the Tikrom community have turned the classrooms of the school into a place of convenience, affecting the school's academic activities. The school desks, teachers tables and chairs as well as blackboards are mostly smeared with human excreta. Mr. Agyeman Yeboah, the head teacher of the school in an interview said the situation is dreadfully embarrassing and has affected their academic activities, as the teachers refuse to teach because of the stench that emanates from the school compound. He noted that the perpetrators do have free access into the classrooms, as there are no windows nor doors to close the classrooms after classes hours. Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia yesterday commiserated with the management and staff of the Multimedia Group – owners and operators of a chain of media outlets – over the sudden demise of Kwadwo Asare Baffour Acheampong, popularly known as KABA. He was the presenter of Asempa FM’s afternoon political programme, ‘Ekosii Sen’ until his death. News of KABA’s death hit Ghanaians Saturday morning, sending shockwaves not only among family members, but also colleague journalists, friends and loved ones. Commercial drivers bleak over fuel price increament

Commercial drivers in the Kumasi Metropolis have expressed their dissatisfaction over the just upward adjustment of fuel prices. The drivers say they are really disappointment in the government, as they trusted in it for better living conditions. "Things are rough in the country now and we didn't expect any fuel price increment at this time. It should've rather remain the same", they said. The National Petroleum Authority, (NPA) announced an increment in fuel prices last Thursday with 4-6% in petrol and 6-8% in diesel respectively. A visit to some of the various petroleum stations indicated that a liter of petrol has risen from 4.330lt to 4.490lt, making Ghc20.20 as a liter of diesel has also adjusted from 4.240lt to 4.490 making Ghc20.20. KMA decongestion exercise: KMA gets tough on stubborn traders at PZ

  The Kumasi Matropolitan Assembly, (KMA) has as part of efforts to make their decongestion exercise a successful one, deployed a joint KMA, police and Military task force to stormed PZ, at Adum, the central business district to destroy properties belonging to traders who have stubbornly refused to vacate the place. Properties include, tables, chairs, umbrellas and wares belonging to the traders were smashed on the ground by the security personnel who aggressively pounced on these petty traders unexpectedly. Boafo herbal company denies contracting police to manhandle their staff over stolen money

The management of Boafuo herbal company, popularly known as maale - maale  has denied allegations they ordered the police to manhandle one of their workers over stolen and burnt money. There has been viral audio and pictures of Abutrika, a 27 year of mechanic who works with the Boafo herbal company at Mamponteng on social media, which indicate that he (Abutrika) has been severely beaten by police at Mamponteng under the incitation of his CEO, Mr. Opoku for stealing a whooping Gh₵ 228 from them and burning some of the money. But addressing a section of journalist at the premises of the company, the PRO of the company, Mr Oduro Samuel, admitted having some police issues with their employee, Abutrika but refuted contracting the police to flog him. KMA decongestion: traders stranded at Race Course due to unavailability of space

Some traders in the Kumasi metropolis who stormed Race Course  to search for space were left stranded, as the place was not ready for them. Today marks the deadline given by the KMA and the Asanteman traditional Council to traders plying on the streets and other unauthorized areas to vacate and relocate themselves to Race Course, Abinkyi market, and other remote places. But the traders numbering over thousands, besieged the race course this morning (6th November, 2017) to find themselves spaces to continue with their businesses, only to discover the place was not furnished for their settlement. The Kumasi Mayor, hon Osei Asibey Antwi addressing the media, urged the traders to stay calm and exercise patience, as they prepare the place for them. The Parish Priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish at Sepe Tinpom in the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi, Monsignor Douglas Peter's has cautioned Ghanaian Youth against Social Vices and other unscrupulous attitude that has the tendency to mar their future. Speaking at the 43rd annual General Council meeting of the Kumasi Archdiocesan Catholic Youth Council at Christian Village, the man of God bemoaned the increasing rate of social vices and lawlessness among the Youth in Ghana. He cited the zeal to make quick money at all cost as one of the notable vices that has eaten deep into the fiber of most Youth of the country. Ksi: Wayside traders rush to Race Course for space, prior to eviction deadline

Prior to the deadline given to traders who are plying on the streets and other unauthorized places in the Kumasi Metropolis to vacate such areas, some of the traders have trooped in to Race Course to search for space, with just two days to the date. The  Kumasi traditional council, the  Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah in collaboration with the KMA have ordered these wayside traders to relocate themselves to Race Course, Afia Kobi market at Abinkyi, Adumanu market and other remote areas before Monday, 6th this Month. Asantehemaa's funeral rites: Kumasi to go curfew again

As part of activities involving the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, the Asanteman traditional council has indicated to re-impose a curfew in the Kumasi metropolis on the night of Monday, 9th December, next month. The curfew starts from 10pm and ends at 5am, as the Asantehene and Asantehemaa with other traditional authorities convey the "Abusua Kuruwa" to Breman.  A ban has also been placed on funeral and noise making. As part of the arrangements, no one is to be seen on the streets of Kumasi, and as a result of that, no stall, shop or any other business activity is to be held in Kumasi especially the central business district from 6:00am on Monday, 4th December to 7:00am. Ghana's high commissioner to South Africa, His Excellency George Ayisi Boateng has in a statement retracted his "NPP members welfare is my priority" comment, describing it as unfortunate. The ambassador in the statement also rendered an unqualified apology to Ghanaians and the presidency over his utterance. The later said when addressing some members Addressing some TESCON members at a ceremony to usher in fresh students of Kumasi Technical University into the network said his topmost priority is to seek the welfare of members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) since in his view, they are “more Ghanaian than other Ghanaians”.
