Small scale miners plead for shorter suspension period

Small scale miners association in the Ashanti Region has begged the government to consider a shorter period for the suspension of their activities, as the six months suspension period might kill their business.

The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the small scale miners Association, Frank Osei speaking at a gathering when the Minister for Lands and Natural resources, Hon. Peter Amewu said they will go bankrupt if they stay home for the next six months without embarking on their activities.

According to him, they are eager to collaborate with the government to fight the menace, and that the government should consider a shorter period for them.

The Minister and his entourage are in the Ashanti Region with a four day familiarization tour to aquatint himself with the damage caused by illegal mining activities.
