Nigerian prostitutes pitch camp at Barekese; residents accuse fetish priestess

The Barekese Township in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of
the Ashanti region is fast becoming a safe haven for commercial sex workers
from neighboring Nigeria, as one fetish priestess, Okomfour Ama Serwaa is
reported to be harboring some at her residents and trading their services for
fees.
The priestess, who is the caretaker of one of the main
deities of the town, the age old Asuo Abena, is currently under pressure from
residents of the town to evict her unwelcomed guests or face their wrath, as
they complain her actions could attract
the wrath of the gods on the town.
Speaking with editor of Kasiebons3m, Eric Boakye, the assembly woman for the Barekese
Electoral Area, Hon. Diana Koomson said promiscuity in the town has been on the
rise ever since the prostitutes came to the town and that all her efforts to
get Okomfour Ama Serwaa to evict the prostitutes from the town has fallen on
deaf ears.
The Okomfo Panin of Barekese, Nana Kerker said the action by Nana Ama Serwaa is abominable and must not be countenance, since it is against the Ashanti culture.
But all efforts to get Okomfour Ama Serwaa for her side of the
story were unsuccessful.
