Ejisu MP Accused of Influencing MCE Rejection

The Member of Parliament for Ejisu Constituency, Hon Kwabena Owusu Adiome is alleged to have influenced assembly members to reject a Municipal Chief Executive nominee, Madam Beatrice Serwaa Derkye.

Assembly members in the Ejisu Juaben Municipal assembly last Friday failed to endorse Madam Serwaa Derkye as MCE for the area despite several appeal from the Ashanti Regional Minister and some party executives.

The assembly has been without MCE for close to 2 years a situation which hampering development of the Municipality.

Speaking with the Kasiebons3m, the NPP organizer at Ejisu and assembly Man for Onwe electoral area, Hon Michael Owusu stated that the MP for the area must be blamed for the rejection of Madam Serwaa Derkye.

According to him, the MP told him when they met at the 6th March celebration grounds at Ejisu that he will do everything to prevent Madam Derkyi from holding the MCE position. 

"We met at the 6th March celebration grounds, i greeted him and when i was returning, he called me back and asked me to go and tell the MCE nominee, Madam Betrice Serwaa Derkye that for her to be the MCE for Ejisu Juaben Municipal is over my dead body", he added.
                        

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Kumawu Constituency, Hon. Philip Basoa also waded into the lingering of the confirmation process of MMDCE nominees of some of the districts and Municipalities, especially that of Ejisu Juaben and appealed to the Assembly members to confirm the nominees when they go to the polls.

Some of the president’s MMDCE nominees have been rejected by members of the Assembly especially that of Ejisu and Asante Akyem Municipal when they went to the polls last week, as they voted against them.

But speaking on the matter, the legislator said the Assembly members’ decision to blackball the nominees brings the dignity of the president who appointed them in disrepute and also affects development in the districts.
 
He therefore urged the delegates of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly to confirm the MCE nominee, Madam Beatrice Serwaa Derchie on Wednesday when they return to the polls.


Meanwhile, former MCE for Ejisu, Hon Afrifa Yamoah Ponkor commenting on the matter expressed worry about the situation, saying the conduct of the assembly members is retarding development of the Municipal.
