Boase youth rounded up by Military men over captain Mahama's murder

Several youth of Boase in the Upper West Denkyira district of the Central region have been rounded up by Military men who have stormed the town over the killing of an officer, Captain Maxwell Mahama, by indegenes of the mining community. According to an army statement, about 35 troops are currently in the town to unravel the circumstances surrounding the mob killing of the young officer. The youth are being held for their alleged involvement in the murder of the soldier. Mahama was lynched by residents on suspicion of being an armed robber. The Captain was a military officer with the 5th Infantry Batallion (5BN) at Burma Camp in Accra but on detachment duties at the Denkyira Boase of the Central region. Gunshots as Somanya residents clash with Police

  About 8 people have reportedly been injured in a fracas between Police in Somanya and residents following the arrest of the alleged leader of last Friday’s chaos over ECG bills. The demonstration last Friday was to protest 'outrageously' high utility bills charged residents by the Electricity Company of Ghana. The residents were billing GHC 5, 000.00 up to GHC 10, 000.00. The alleged ringleader of the Friday chaos, Dindiindin Adamitey, an assemblyman, was picked up by the Police this morning and is currently in custody assisting with investigations. One of the residents, Eric Asamoah who spoke to Angel News said the youth were demanding the immediate release of the assemblyman hence vandalizing the police station and a Mahindra pick up belonging to the police was burnt. He said police and the military have taken over the town but no one has been arrested.

Tamale: Rowdy youth lock out EDAIF workers

  Rowdy youth suspected to be supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party locked out workers of Export Trade, Agricultural and Industrial Development Fund (EDAIF) in Tamale Monday following allegation the CEO is providing credit facilities to only members of the opposition. The youth on motorbikes drove out the workers who reported to work and locked up the facility and left contact details for possible negotiations. The group leader Musah Fuseini Dangomah said though he was not consulted about the action of his members, he endorses their action and open for talks. According to him, his men have been complaining about the attitude of the CEO towards members of the NPP who “suffered to bring the party to power”. He said farmers and traders perceived to be members of NPP were treated with disdain and sometimes “we’re denied of credit facilities by the CEO”. Stop abrogating contracts without my consent – Adwoa Safo warns

The Minister in charge of Public Procurement, Adwoa Safo, has warned various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), as well as Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs), to stop terminating government contracts without recourse to her Ministry. Her warning follows the termination of contracts by some heads of various MMDAs and MDAs, a few days after they assumed their respective roles. The Minister in a statement indicated that, the decision to abrogate these contracts without the Procurement Ministry’s consent, might lead to “unnecessary legal battles between government and contractors which could spark needless and avoidable payment of judgement debts.” Adwoa Safo clarified that, although she “has no doubt about the competence of heads of entities to make a judgement on what a good contract is from a bad one”, she believes that it is “always important to seek legal and expert advice before a decision to abrogate a contract is taken.” ...

Two men killed; eyes removed at Techiman

Two men believed to be in their 30s have been murdered in Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region with each of them having one of their eyes plucked out. These unfortunate incidents occurred separately in Techiman Zongo and Techiman Central Markets on Monday 29 th May, 2017. A local reporter, Ali Addo who spoke to Kumasi based Angel fm said the deaths have thrown residents into a state of shock and fear. According to him, the deceased are yet to be identified, adding that it is not clear if the killings were coordinated and it’s also unknown who are behind the dastardly act. The bodies have been deposited at the Holy Family Hospital mortuary. The Police have since commenced investigations into the matter.
