We charge our pupils for canteen due to lack of school feeding - Kantro teachers

According to some of the teachers, they have resort to charging Ghc 2 from each of the pupils to prepare foods for them, as they have not received their share of government's school feeding program.
They told Atinka Fm's Brong Ahafo Regional Rep, Ebenezer Barfi that they have to boycott classroom activities to go to the kitchen to prepare food for the children, a situation they said has been affecting their academic activities.
One of them said, " Kantro is in critical need of support from authorities. The children do not get food to eat when they come to school and so we have been taken Ghc 2 from them to get them food to eat for the week".
According to her, leaving classroom activities to prepare food for the children has also been a hindrance to the smooth running of the school.
"We are teachers who are supposed to teach but we have been compelled to boycott classroom activities to prepare food for the children which was not part of our duty".
One of them also said the school apart from the food challenges lacks the requisite teaching and learning materials to enhance academic activities.
"Most of the children have refused to come to school because of the lack of food here. Some do not have books, whiles others have been lying on the bare floor to study and this has discouraged most of the children from coming to school".
They have therefore appealed to the government to give them their share of the school feeding initiative and also provide them with teaching and learning logistics to improve their activities.
Meanwhile, the Sunyani West DCE, Hon. Martin Obeng in an interview on the situation said he has sent a proposal to the government and waiting for response.
"I am privy to the situation and have sent a proposal to the government to come and address it. I am pleading with the people to calm down, as we just came into office. We are acting on it".
