SIMMS SHS closed amidst end of term exams
The Ashanti Regional Education Directorate in collaboration with the PTA of SIMMS Senior High School in the Kwabre East District of Ashanti Region have ordered an indefinite closure of the school, following the vandalism of the school's properties by some irate students.
The closure has come on the time the students are having their end of term exams.
The Kwabre East District Director of Education, Madam Akua Abrafi narrating the incident in an interview with Agyenkwa FM's Henry Ameyaw indicted that properties include Windows, 2 cars belonging to some masters, tables and mono desks destroyed, marker boards and water pipes have been destroyed by the irate students.
Explaining the cause of the chaos, Madam Akua Abrafi said a misunderstanding ensued among the students over the school's dinning which arouse the anger some of the students to perpetrate this act.
"They did not express any ill feelings until yesterday when they went for dinning. Some of the form 2 and 3 students in their bid to enjoy more food placed two bowls to represent themselves twice, but later complained that the food was insatiable". She explained.
According to her, the students who were not pleased with the food they got, out of anger, started messing up, thus; rampaging in the school.
She added that the authorities arrived at the decision to temporary close down the in order to put things in order.
"We have asked them to go home to ensure their own safety but they will be called back for them to continue with their examination, the Headmaster is in Accra for a workshop and so we are waiting for his return before we could decide on when to call them back".
Madam Akua Abrafi they will investigate the case to identify the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, police have since been deployed to the school to secure the place.
