E/R: 9 dead, residents flee in a fresh Fulani herdsmen and farmers clash

Some nine persons have been reported dead as a result of a gun battle that has arouse between some Fulani Herdsmen and residents at Dwerebeafe, Abonya and Mpeamu in the Eastern Region over a misunderstanding that ensued between the two functions.


Some two other persons, a farmer and a 12 year old boy who sustained life threatening gun shot wounds are currently on admission at the Kwahu Government Hospital receiving treatment, as bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue at Atibie for autopsy.

There has been an unusual holiday for school children at some three communities in the Kwahu East District of Eastern Region, as all schools have been closed, following a gory clash between some farmers and Fulani Herdsmen in the area.

According to a local reporter, the communities are currently in a silent mood, as all able men and women have fled the communities to protect their lives.

The Member of parliament for Abetifi constituency, Hon. Bryn Acheampong disclosed this macabre incident at an emergency meeting with the Kwahu district Assembly.

According to him, there have been series of meetings and consultations between the chiefs, cattle owners security personnel and Fulani Herdsmen on how to find a lasting solution to the conflict between the two factions but to no avail.

He has therefore advised the cattle owners to relocate their animals to the fodder banks in the Afram Plains, to ensure peace in the area.

The legislator who doubles as the Minister of State in charge of National Security said police reinforcement has been dispatched there to assist the local security personnel to deal with the situation.

Meanwhile, the Assembly member for Hweehwee electoral area, Hon, Solomon Aboagye has been telling us that he had a distress phone call from Mpeam near Hweehwee that some two persons failed to return from their farms that day.

He continued that he therefore urged the youth in the area to organize a search party to look for them the next day when they only found their dead bodies in their farms in a pool of blood with gun shot wounds and informed the police and went with them to convey the bodies to the Kwahu government Hospital morgue at Attibie.
