B/A: Atebubu fire command moves to prevent fire outbreaks during the dry season
The Atebubu Amantin district fire service command in the Bring Ahafo Region has issued a ban on activities which involve the use of fire in the bushes in the area, as we head towards the harmattan season.
The ban which kick start from November 1st this year and ends on 31st March next year according to the rural fire coordinator, Assistant Station Officer, Zakaria Kabore is in line with the PNDC law act 2290 which prevents the use of fire for activities in the bush.
He noted that this move is to prevent the persistent fire outbreaks which has been a major headache on the country during every harmattan period.
According to him his outfit will not hesitate to enforce the law to deal with perpetrators who defy the order.
He noted that offenders would be amerced a whooping GHc 56 million, or be jailed for 5 years, per the 400 penalty unit of the PNDC law 2290.
He added that Fulani herdsmen who wants to operate in the area during this period must acquire an accreditation from the Assembly before being allowed.
"Fulani herdsmen, operating in this area are not exempted from the ban. They can only operate if they have acquired an accreditation from us. Any of them who defies our orders will be made to face the law". ASO Zakaria Kabore said.
