Kegeri fired; ARCC to get new PRO

The fate of Mr. Clement
Kigeri as the PRO of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) hangs in
a balance, as authorities earmark a new person for that post.
The decision to fire Kegeri
from the post has been finalised by the ARCC, a deep throated source has
confirmed.
President Mahama's 3 day
tour of the Ashanti region which ended Thursday, received bad press, mainly due
to the attitude of the PRO in handling the affairs of the media, a situation
which has angered the Regional Minister, Hon. John Alexander Ackon.
Mr Kegeri has been
accused of bias and disrespect by some high profile media outlets in Kumasi,
and that he left behind some key journalists and chose personnel from some low
key media houses to follow the president’s tour on the last day, which was
supposed to be the high point of the accounting to the people tour of the Ashanti
region.
In this light, the ARCC
has decided to send Mr. Kegeri packing from that post to make way for a cordial
relationship between the media and that government outfit, especially in an
election where the government expects the media to project its campaign and
projects in good fate.
It is also speculated
that, the move to oust Mr. Kegeri from the post is due to the abrasive relationship
he has with the Regional Minister.
Journalist in the Kumasi
metropolis have severally accused Mr. Kegeri of pocketing their allowances any
time the ARCC organises a program; a case in point is what happened on the
first day of the tour where each journalist was given an amount of GHC 40
instead of GHC 100 which had been allotted to each press person.
The new PRO is expected
to be announced on Monday, 4th July 2016.
