Low salaries root cause of corruption - Archbishop
Archbishop Samuel Richard Addae
The General Overseer of Shilo United Church West Africa
and president of International Council of Churches and Minister of Great Britain
(ICCMGB), Archbishop Samuel Richard Addae, has lamented the spate of bribery
and corruption in the country, blaming it on the low salary of Ghanaian workers
as the root cause of the menace.
In an interview with TOPNEWS1, the high priest said
salaries are not adequate to cater for the day to day needs of employees and
thereby they are forced to employ dubious means to get additional money to
reduce their frustrations.
He said the canker poses dangerous consequences for the
nation and has advised government and other employers to adequately remunerate
their staff in order to reduce corruption in the country.
He further indicated that the fortunes of the country
will not change even if there is a change of government unless Ghanaians change
our character.
He advised those who have been put in positions of
authority to work diligently for the betterment of all Ghanaians.
