Abuakwa North MP sworn in today
Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo has been sworn in today as the new
Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency by the Speaker of Parliament,
Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Ajaho at the parliament house in Accra.
She
replaces the late MP for the area, Hon. J.B Dankwa Adu who was murdered at his
residence on February 9 this year.
The science teacher won the
parliamentary primaries to represent the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a
bye-election following the murder of the incumbent, Joseph Boakye Danquah.
Gifty
Twum Ampofo polled 10,033 votes representing 89.60% of total votes cast in the
parliamentary bye-election.
The other candidates; Isaac Kwartey of the United Front Party (UFP) managed to garner 901 votes representing 8.05% and Samuel Frimpong of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) had 263 votes representing 2.35%.
The ruling National Democratic Congress pulled out of the by-election in respect to the late MP.
