Sofoline drivers union snubs K.M.A

The decision by the City Authorities to relocate commercial drivers at the Sofoline lorry terminal to pave way for its reconstruction into a modern one is receiving a fierce resistance from the commercial drivers plying the terminal. The aggrieved commercial drivers says they are not vacating the terminal until the last drop of their blood. The P.R.O of the Sofoline drivers association, Mr. Richard Mintah in an interview with TOPNEWS1 News said, the M.O.U which the K.M.A want them to sign for the commencement of the project does not highlight any of the pressing proposals of the union especially a legal action which should be taken in a court of law should there be any breach in the M.O.U, than a court of arbitration which the KMA suggests is the final binding. Nana Konadu Kicks Agaianst EC’s Decision to Withdraw Certificates of Parties without District Offices

The founder and leader of National Democratic Party NDP, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlins has kicked against electoral commission’s decision to withdraw certificates of Political Parties which does not have District Offices. The Electoral Commission has warned it will withdraw certificates of political parties without district offices by the end of May. The chairman of the Convention People’s Party Dr. Edmund Delle who disclosed this at a stakeholders meeting in Accra Wednesday said he was amazed to discover that some of the smaller parties agree with the directive of the EC. “They have indicated to us that parties without offices in the districts, they are going to take a very serious look at it. And so this is a threat and I am surprised that some of the smaller parties too were emphatic that this law should be enforced. Low salaries root cause of corruption - Archbishop

  Archbishop Samuel Richard Addae The General Overseer of Shilo United Church West Africa and president of International Council of Churches and Minister of Great Britain (ICCMGB), Archbishop Samuel Richard Addae, has lamented the spate of bribery and corruption in the country, blaming it on the low salary of Ghanaian workers as the root cause of the menace. In an interview with TOPNEWS1, the high priest said salaries are not adequate to cater for the day to day needs of employees and thereby they are forced to employ dubious means to get additional money to reduce their frustrations. He said the canker poses dangerous consequences for the nation and has advised government and other employers to adequately remunerate their staff in order to reduce corruption in the country. Abuakwa North MP sworn in today

Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo has been sworn in today as the new Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Ajaho at the parliament house in Accra. She replaces the late MP for the area, Hon. J.B Dankwa Adu who was murdered at his residence on February 9 this year. The science teacher won the parliamentary primaries to represent the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a bye-election following the murder of the incumbent, Joseph Boakye Danquah. Gifty Twum Ampofo polled 10,033 votes representing 89.60% of total votes cast in the parliamentary bye-election. The other candidates; Isaac Kwartey of the United Front Party (UFP) managed to garner 901 votes representing 8.05% and Samuel Frimpong of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) had 263 votes representing 2.35%. The ruling National Democratic Congress pulled out of the by-election in respect to the late MP.

AR minister wades into KMA PM Controversy

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. John Alexander Ackon, has charged the media and the people of Kumasi Metropolis to mount pressure on the members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly KMA to elect a Presiding Member PM to steer the affairs of the assembly in order for the city to get its fair share of development. Speaking with TOPNEWS1 , the regional minister noted that the assembly members cannot take the people of Kumasi for granted as their continual failure to elect a PM is virtually affecting everything. He charged stakeholders in the metropolis and the assembly members to put an end to the hide and seek attitude and solve the problem once and for all.
