NHIS is working in the Ashanti Region- Deputy health Minister defends

  The deputy Minister of health Hon. Dr. Victor Banffo has dispelled rumors making rounds to the effect that the National Health Insurance policy in the Ashanti Region  has ceased to function.   The deputy Minister answering questions as to the validity of the NHIS in the Ashanti Region at a forum in Kumasi admitted that though there has been some lapses concerning the smooth running of the free health policy in the Region, there is no need to create impression that the Scheme has stop functioning.   He assured that the government is putting up  measures to  avert the challenges to enable it run very smoothly.   According to him, the Scheme has improved greatly in the Ashanti Region under the NDC administration indicating that the policy has been a benefit to the people in the Region.   The Ashanti Regional edition of "The Government for the People forum" was organized by the Ministry of communications.   The event brought to the ground...

Members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has began an indefinite nationwide strike today following government’s refusal to pay them Interim Premium and other allowances as enjoyed by their colleagues at other government institutions. Leaders of the association say their members are not being fairly treated in the payment of interim premium to public sector workers and that they will continue to stay at home until they get what they want. In an interview with TOPNEWS 1, National Organizer of CLOGSAG, Emmanuel Acquah urged all their members not to succumb to any threats or pressure from any quarters in their various districts as the association is resolute in championing their course, revealing the strike is indefinite. Scrap taxes, duties on medical donations – Dr Wiafe Addai pleads

President of Breast Care International and CEO of Peace and Love Hospital, Dr. Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addae has appealed to authorities in the country to exempt medical donations from taxes and duties at the country’s entry points. According to the medical practitioner, this will enable needy patients to get their required medications with less hustle.   She made this appeal when presenting some assortment of drugs worth a wholesale value of 6 million USD to over 20 health institutions across the country distributed by Breast Care International, an NGO in Kumasi. The donation forms part of the latest consignment of drugs donated by USA-based organization, Direct Relief to aid the treatment of diseases such as hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes and mental diseases in the country.   She disclosed the donation is part of her institution’s corporate social responsibilities.

Three Jailed 63 years For Attempted Robbery

  Dunkwa Circuit Court presided over by His Lordship Samuel Asare Nyarko has sentenced three persons to 63 years imprisonment in hard labor for attempted robbery. According to Top News 1 reporter was at the court during the prosecution, the three persons (Francis Armah, Emmanuel Armah and Kwabena Nyarko) would spend 21-years in prison. The accused persons were arrested by the Dunkwa District police when they attempted to loot a Chinese national in his house at Atechem a Suburb of Dunkwa-Offin in the Central Region. Police retrieved a pump action gun, Locally Manufactured pistol and cartridges from them upon a search conducted on them. Though the Convicts pleaded not guilty to charges during the trials but the court them found guilty and convicted them accordingly.
