We are not against tricycle operations in Kumasi – KMA
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has explained their decision for regulating tricycle and other vehicular activities in the Kumasi Metropolis.
In an interview with the
Media during a stakeholders meeting between the Assembly and the various
transport Unions who operate in the Metropolis, Head of the Assembly’s transport
Department, Mr. Randy Wilson disclosed that the Assembly is not against tricycle
activities but only implementing measures to ensure sanity in the Central
Business District.
The meeting follows an
agitation by Tricycle operators in the Kumasi Metropolis over KMA’s intention
to ban them from operating within the Central Business District.
The aggrieved Pragia and
Aboboyaa operators on Wednesday stormed the Suame to Kejetia Road, preventing
commercial drivers from work to express their dissatisfaction against KMA’s
decision.
However, Mr. Randy Wilson cautioned that the Assembly will not hesitate to sanction transport operators who default the Assembly’s new transport regulations.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Pragia Riders Association, Alhaji Karmel who was present at the meeting has advised his members to abide by the rules and regulations of the Assembly in order not to incur any punishment.
