Ejisu MCE election: Yamoah Ponkor failed again

The third round of the election to confirm Mr. Yamoah Ponkor as the Ejisu Juaben MCE has ended today amid tight security with 68 Assembly Members made up of 47 elected members and 21 government appointees set to decide for his fate. The nominee Yamoa Ponkor and his supporters were left disappointed after he was declared to have lost for the third time with 38 votes for him and 30 against him. In spite of the dozens of security personnel who were deployed to secure the election, there were occasional experiences of aggression between the macho men of Mr. Yamoah Ponkor and some of the residents which led to the arrest of two people.   The Ghana Police Service has urged Ghanaians to remain calm in the wake of a prophecy by the founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Prophet T.B Joshua, predicting a possible terrorist attack on Ghana. The renowned prophet urged his congregation to pray for Ghana and Nigeria in a bid forestall evil plans by the enemy during live Sunday service on his Emmanuel TV channel.   “I am seeing Thursday, Friday, and Saturday –if I may say Thursday – because these evil people they are very funny. Central Market fire victims cry for help

          Traders at a section of the Kumasi Central Market that got raided down by fire consuming about 70 shops about three months ago have appealed to the authorities in the city and the country at large to come to their aid.   The victims of the fire outbreak who have began reconstruction of their shops by the help of the relatives and loan firms say they have not received any meaningful support from politicians who gave them sweet promises right after the incident. At a visit to the market to ascertain the current trend of business activities, the traders told TOPNEWS1 that they received several promises from the NDC and NPP party leaders but none of them have  honored  their promise. They said the situation has really affected their economic situation making life unbearable for them and are calling on stakeholders of the country to come to their assistance.

Taxi driver terrified after passenger disappeared from his cab.

A commercial taxi driver believed to be in his 40s, David Boakye reported to TOPNEWS1 what he termed as a shock of his life claiming that a passenger he picked by the road side had disappeared from his cab. According to him, he got terrified after realizing the man he picked from Gee roundabout who was seated at the backseat of his taxi cab has been miraculously vanished from the car, leaving his belongings behind when he decided to ask him where he was going. "I picked the man at the Gee roundabout and headed the Asuoyeboah road but upon reaching a certain point, i asked him where exactly he was going but he didn't answered and after looking at the backseat, he was no where to be found" he said. Inhumane:Taxi driver beaten mercilessly by Policemen

A taxi driver believed to be in his 40's who ply Anloga Junction to Atonsu had a close shave after some t hree Police Men p ounced on him and assulted him at the Anloga junction Taxi rank. The victim who mentioned his name as Agya Poku explaining his ordeal to TOPNEWS1 said, he engaged in an exchange of insults with the police personnel who were not in their uniform for intentionally blocking the road with their motor bike whilst the traffic light had indicated green. He said, the cops chased him to his taxi rank where he packed his car, dragged him out of his car and started to beat him up, handcuffed him and drove him off to the central Police station where he received several brutalities from other colleagues of the men in black. The driver added that, he was taken to the Police counter after receiving the beatings where he was detained for sometime before releasing him. He is currently in the hospital receiving treatment.         

GNAT accuses gvn't of delayed salary arreas

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is accusing the Finance Ministry of deliberately delaying the validation processes which will allow for members to be paid their arrears. There is an ongoing exercise to validate the documents of teachers to facilitate payments but GNAT says the Finance Ministry has failed to release funds needed for the validation exercise to be completed. GNAT fears the validation team may suspend its work again by end of this week after an earlier suspension. Speaking with TOPNEWS1 , Head of compensation of GNAT Ahinakwa Quarshie said the Finance Ministry is the cause of all challenges. "We have not finished the first data that was sent in by the Ghana Education Service and we are to break again and i see that as a deliberate ploy by the employers to do that.
